Premier League clubs told they have to social distance in dressing rooms – The Athletic

Is this a surprise?

It may come as a surprise to many, given the UK government lifted distancing restrictions on July 19.

Legally, UK citizens can now socialise indoors with no limits on numbers or distance between themselves. COVID-19 cases in the UK have been gradually declining in their last few days.

The Premier League, however, has decided that clubs must keep distancing in order to protect players.

Why is this a problem?

The return of fans to football matches presents a potential issue for some clubs, with some away teams entering the pitch through parts of the stadium bowl.

Such measures may not be logistically possible this season, even with reduced attendances in stadiums.
