PITMAN, N.J. – The TCNJ women’s basketball team was selected fourth in the NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll, released on Thursday morning by the league.
Rowan topped the projections with six first-place votes, with New Jersey City (3 first-place votes) in second and Montclair State (1) in third. Kean was fifth, followed by William Patterson, Stockton, Rutgers-Newark, Ramapo, and Rutgers-Camden.
Junior guard Julia Setaro is the team’s top returning scorer after averaging 17.9 points per game last season, good for third in the conference, and earning a second team All-NJAC nod. She shot 47.4 percent from three-point range, tops in the NJAC and 16th in the NCAA. Classmate Sydney Blum posted 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game a year ago.
The Lions were 9-1 overall in the shortened 2020-21 season, including going a perfect 8-0 through the abbreviated regular season. After a win over Stockton in the NJAC quarterfinals, the Lions were eliminated by New Jersey City in the semifinals.
TCNJ opens the 2021-22 campaign on November 12 against Southern Virginia, the opening game of a tip-off tournament hosted by Rochester.
